a Day on the job
A music producer oversees the artistic, financial, and technical demands of a recording project. They often are responsible for coordinating with the recording artist to choose songs and work out musical arrangements. They also oversee the recording process, mixing and overdubbing sessions. Sometimes, the producer will oversee the quality of the end product, while allowing the engineer to oversee the actual recording. However, for more independent producers, it is common for the producer to handle the responsibilities of both the producer and the engineer. One of the final responsibilities for a music producer is to ensure that the tonal and volume levels throughout the record remain mostly constant, so that a song does not suddenly become much louder than the previous.
Working conditions
Producers often work long hours to make ends meet. They are in charge of making sure that the record has a unique, interesting sound, and that it has lots of potential to sell. Their responsibility is to make sure that the record meets and exceeds expectations for the artists, as well as the listeners.
